Haemorrhoid Injection
At GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY and affiliated endoscopy centres (Mornington and Rosebud), your gastroenterologist will discuss, prior to being sedated, if you wish to have the haemorrhoids injected if it is found that you have bleeding haemorrhoids as the only cause of rectal bleeding. Injection has now established itself as a proven medical procedure to control bleeding from small internal or external haemorrhoids. Injection at the time of endoscopy will prevent further medical consultations, time off work for medical appointments. Many patients may avoid the need for surgery. The recovery time after injection is much less than formal haemorrhoid surgery – often patients would be back to work within 1-2 days. Needless to say, injection of haemorrhoids under sedation is much more humane compared with having it done without sedation, and is rapidly becoming the standard of care. Obtaining advice from an experienced gastroenterologist to help you decide which types of haemorrhoids will benefit from injection therapy and which type will need formal haemorrhoidectomy is invaluable.
