GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY
Since 2007, GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY (GME) as a group has grown to cater for a large population of patients who come from all areas of South-East Melbourne (from Elsternwick across to Glen Waverley, Wantirna and Fern Tree Gully; from Narre Warren to Cranbourne and the entire Mornington Peninsula region extending to Hastings and Sorrento). All three Day Hospitals in Mornington, Springvale and Rosebud have been purpose built for endoscopy, and we cater for a diverse group of patients who have common gastrointestinal conditions, and those with rare pathologies that require astute clinical acumen to make the diagnoses. Our Specialists are extremely well regarded by their peers. Patients who are admitted to our Day Hospitals certainly feel they are well looked after, not only by the reception team, the nursing and anaesthetics staff but most importantly their Specialist. It is the personalised care that each patient receives is the cornerstone of our success.
Our vision at GME is to become the first choice for endoscopy and gastroenterology needs. Professionalism and caring service are the hallmarks that differentiate us.

At GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY, above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. In recognition of this commitment, we will strive to deliver high quality, cost-effective healthcare in the communities we serve. We trust our colleagues as valuable members of our healthcare team and we pledge to treat each other with loyalty and respect.
We are also committed to the continuous improvement and development of our services and standards of care, to ensure that we continue to provide the highest level of medical excellence in every area of our hospitals. Everything that we do, from our patient feedback questionnaires and investment in our state-of-the-art facilities, through to our external auditing processes and accreditations, is to ensure that we stay at the forefront of world-class private healthcare.
Our behaviour in the workplace is guided at all times by the values chosen by GME staff and leaders. Our Values underpin the entire way we do business. Our values include:
- Staff Engagement
- Blame Free
GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY is acutely aware of the risk of infection that all Day Surgeries are faced with and takes the problem of minimising the risk to our patients through many infection control initiatives very seriously.
GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY employs an independent infection control specialist, who works alongside the staff to ensure best practices in maintaining infection control are upheld. Some of these strategies include:
- Asking our patients on our admission forms whether they have been suffering any fevers or flu like symptoms in the previous month. If a patient indicates they in fact have, we make contact with the patient and ask the patient for more information about these symptoms. Depending on the answer we may discuss this with the doctor and postpone the procedure, because to admit this patient may pose a risk to other patients and staff.
- We also ask whether the patient is suffering from any pre-existing health care infection or communicable disease. A communicable disease is an infection that is extremely contagious and can be spread easily through air, blood or bodily fluid. At no time will a patient suffering from an active communicable disease be admitted to GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY. Their procedure will be postponed until this infection has been treated and cleared by a doctor.
Our Infection rates are very low which is something we are very proud of at GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY, however we never rest on our laurels and we are continually striving for more. You can be assured when you attend GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY your health is our top priority and our attention to infection prevention is another way to prove this.
At GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY our priority is to ensure that patients are cared for in a way that is completely safe, effective, efficient and fair, and our aim is to provide high quality clinical service that meets our clients’ needs. Clinical Governance is, at its core all about being accountable for providing good, safe care to patients and is fundamental to continuous improvement in patient safety.
To GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY, clinic governance includes elements such as:
- Clinical Audits
- Risk Management
- Clinical effectiveness
- Staffing and staff management
- Patient and public involvement
- Education and training
Although the Chief Executive has overall responsibility for the quality of care provided to patients by the hospital, they are supported closely by the General Manager, the Director of Nursing and a number of focus groups that oversee the development of the elements above.
We are always keen to have our patients heard, and we carry out regular monthly feedback questionnaires to ensure this.
We are also proud to maintain our exceptional record when it comes to clinical incidents thanks to the work of our team at GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY.
At our Mornington facility we have a Dietician who works closely with the GME team. If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to contact them. Make an Appointment
