FAQ’s
What will happen during my procedure?
You will meet with your anaesthetist who will explain the anaesthetic with you. They will then walk you into theatre where the specialist who is doing your procedure will have an opportunity to talk to you. You will then be put to sleep for the entire length of the procedure. During this time your blood pressure and other vital signs are measured and when the procedure is finished you will be wheeled into recovery where the nurse stays at your side until you are fully awake.
How long will I be there for if I have a procedure?
Usually you will be here for approximately two hours from the time of your appointment
What time is my procedure and can I be first?
We ask that you call our centre the day before the procedure to find out the exact time. At GastroMedicine & ENDOSCOPY, we want to keep our patients in the same condition they were before they saw us, so managing of health factors does play a big part in the times patient’s appointments for procedures are. Generally patients who have a medical condition such as diabetes, or significant heart problems, or the very elderly are seen first, because it poses a risk to their health, to fast for longer than necessary so we cannot guarantee you will be seen first.
Am I asleep for the procedure?
Yes, with a medication named Propofol. This will keep you lightly sedated for the duration of the procedure. Once the procedure is complete you will be awake within 15 minutes.
What happens after the procedure is finished?
Once the procedure is finished, you will be wheeled into recovery where one of our Registered Nurses stays by your side until you wake up, once you wake up and the nurse is happy with your vital signs they will call your family member/friend to let them know your procedure is complete and you are stable and give them a time to come to collect you. When you are more awake the nurse will come and assist you out of bed and aid you to get dressed, at which time they will walk you to the recovery chair and give you light refreshment. Once in this chair the doctor will come and give you the results of the procedure and provide you with a copy of the report. After this the nurse will give you your discharge instructions and you can go home (if your family member is in attendance to drive you home)
Can I eat whatever I like after the procedure?
Generally yes, however your doctor will advise whether a special diet should be commenced when they speak with you regarding your results of the procedure. No Alcohol is to be consumed for the entire day of your procedure.
Is there enough parking?
We have onsite parking at the rear of the centre with plenty of spots available.
